About Abel Tartan
Abel Tartan fabric is a contemporary family-name tartan with a documented designer and registration history. Its Modern palette brings together green and blue with black, white, yellow and pink accents, creating a lively sett for clothing, accessories, soft furnishings and creative projects.
The story of Abel Tartan
The official Scottish Register of Tartans records the design as Abel (2015). It was designed by Dannie Abel and registered on 16 September 2015 under reference 11368. The registration notes explain that its colours were selected for their significance to the family and that the tartan may be used by anyone who bears the Abel surname.
Abel is therefore a modern registered name tartan, rather than an ancient clan sett with an undocumented medieval founder. Its recorded creator is Dannie Abel, and the 2015 Register entry provides the authoritative milestone in the design's history.

Tartan & colour
Will the colours look exactly like the photos?
Screen settings, lighting, woven materials and pattern placement can cause small, reasonable differences in colour, texture or where the pattern falls. Measurements and dimensions are approximate unless the product or a written confirmation says otherwise.
What do "Ancient" and "Modern" mean in a tartan name?
They are colour shades of the same sett. Ancient uses softer, lighter tones and Modern uses deeper, stronger tones. The pattern itself is the same.
My tartan is not listed. Can you help?
Often, yes. We can weave a tartan no mill stocks, from a photo, scan, sketch or thread count. Asking for a quote is free.
Ready-to-dispatch and made-to-order products have different preparation times. Made-to-measure and personalised items may not enter production until your measurements, choices and other details are complete. Orders with mixed lead times may ship together when the longest item is ready, or separately.
I need it for a wedding or event. Can you meet my date?
Contact us before ordering so we can advise whether your date looks achievable. Production, dispatch and carrier times are estimates unless we confirm a fixed date in writing.
How much is delivery?
Available delivery services and the final charge are shown at checkout once you enter your address. Any free-shipping offer applies only while it is displayed and checkout confirms your order qualifies.
Will I pay customs or import duties?
International deliveries may be subject to customs, import duties, taxes or carrier charges set by the destination. Unless checkout states they are included, the recipient pays them.
Follow the care information supplied with the product. Natural materials, woven fabrics, leather and metalwork can each need different handling.
Can I clean or treat it myself?
If the right cleaning, storage or maintenance method is unclear, contact us before using any treatment that could affect the fabric, colour, leather, metalwork or fit.
Returns
Can I return this item?
Yes. Standard, non-personalised products can be returned within 30 days of delivery. UK customers can also cancel within 14 days of receiving the goods under distance-selling rights. Contact us for return instructions first.
Contact us promptly with your order number and photos where possible, and keep the product and packaging while we look into it. We cover the reasonable return cost for faulty, damaged or incorrect items.
