Design & colour

The Bruce Old pattern

Broad red bands anchor the sett. Finer green and blue lines cross through them, adding rhythm, contrast and definition to the repeating pattern.

  • RedColour family
  • GreenColour family
  • BlueColour family
The red tones form the foundation, while green and blue sharpen the design. Repeated across the horizontal and vertical, these lines build the balanced check that gives the tartan its character.

Colour swatches show broad colour families and may differ from the exact woven shade.

Who can wear the Bruce Old tartan?

Clan and family tartans are traditionally worn by members and supporters of that name, and district tartans by people with a connection to the place. Many designs are also worn simply for their appearance. Some designs have recorded restrictions or permission requirements, so check the tartan record or ask us before ordering if you are unsure.

How much fabric do I need for a kilt?

A traditional kilt typically uses around 8 yards of cloth and a casual kilt around 4 yards, depending on your waist and the sett. If you order a kilt from us, the cloth is included, so there is no need to buy fabric separately.

How long will my order take?

Tartan fabric, and kilts or accessories made from non-stock tartan, usually ship within 15–20 days. Made-to-measure items start production once your measurements and details are complete. These are estimates, not guaranteed dates.

How much does delivery cost?

Standard US shipping is $25 when the merchandise subtotal after discounts is $500 or less, and free when that subtotal is above $500. Tax and shipping are excluded from the threshold. Charges for other destinations are shown at checkout. Import duties and taxes are separate unless included in your checkout total.

Can I return fabric or a kilt?

Standard, non-personalised items can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Fabric cut to your length and made-to-measure kilts are made to your specification, so change-of-mind returns are not normally available. Faulty or incorrect items are always covered.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?

Screens show colours differently, and our swatches show broad colour families. If an exact shade matters, ask us before ordering and we will help you check.

I need it for a wedding or a set date. Can you help?

Yes. Contact us before ordering and we will advise whether your date looks achievable. An enquiry does not guarantee a date unless we confirm it in writing.
